A central vacuum power unit is the furnace of the system. You buy it once, size it to the square footage, and then you do not want to think about it again, and the SR66 is the VacuMaid unit most of our customers end up with for that reason. A 6.6-inch tangential bypass motor rated up to 10,000 square feet, a disposable HEPA-style bag, a 36-inch can, and 58 dB with the exhaust vented. It does a big colonial at a whisper and runs on a standard 120-volt circuit at 14 amps.

Why we like it
- 663 air watts and 139 CFM with a 58 dB sound rating. That combination of pull and quiet is why it is our default recommendation for a large house.
- The bypass motor keeps the dirty air away from the motor windings, which is the design you want if you expect twenty years of service.
- The disposable HEPA-style bag seals on removal. People with allergies notice the difference between this and shaking out a can.
- 14 amps on 120 volts, so it fits a normal dedicated circuit without calling for 240-volt work.
Think twice if
- Your house is under 3,000 square feet. The SR36 does the job in a shorter can for a lot less money.
- You want cyclonic inverted-bag collection instead of buying bags. The SR46 is the same 6.6-inch motor with an inverted bag and a 9,500-square-foot rating.
- You need to hang it yourself above a workbench. It is 36 inches tall and needs clearance under it; we install across the Farmington Valley and can do the exhaust vent at the same visit.

The manufacturer warranty applies, and we handle the claim with you from our own bench. Power units ship by freight for a flat $49 to the contiguous U.S., generally within 2 to 3 business days. Return a factory-sealed, unused unit within 30 days and pay the return freight, and we will take it back. After installation, problems are covered through the manufacturer warranty with our help rather than a return.
Questions customers ask us
Is the SR66 quiet enough for a basement under a family room?
With the exhaust vented outside it is rated 58 dB, which is conversation level in the next room. It is the quietest of the 10,000-square-foot units in the line.
What bag does it use?
A disposable HEPA-style bag that seals when you pull it. Capacity is 27 quarts, so bag changes are a few times a year in most homes.
How does it compare with the SR52?
Same coverage rating, same capacity. The SR52 has a 7.2-inch motor in a shorter 26-inch can but runs at 70 dB; the SR66 is 36 inches tall, 58 dB and draws 14 amps instead of 15.8.
